solo music -from $2,250

Anyone that owned the original Solo Music system a decade or so ago won’t be completely surprised to discover that the new version is no slouch in the sound quality stakes. Whichever sound source you use, it’s clear that the usual compromises you expect from a one-box music system simply aren’t present. For example, plug a high-end DAC into its line input, then sit back and be amazed at how good it sounds for a one-box system. The amplifier section is excellent, and that’s important as it’s the one part of a single-box system for which excuses cannot be made.

Like many Arcam products before it, the Solo Music delivers an instantly likeable sound that you can settle in to for the evening: powerful, punchy and smooth, with sonic must-haves like clarity, balance and detail also in check. With no part of the frequency range tipping the tonal scales, the muscular bassline, fuzzy electrics and sprawling synthesizers that drive Any Colour You Like have just as much clarity as the ever-present cymbals that cut through them. While it’s not an easy track to spell out, the Arcam has the space and precision to communicate the tempestuous production, splitting even the most saturated instrumental parts into distinct layers.

muso 2 -from $349

The muso speaker has been designed to perfectly complement Solo Movie & Music systems, utilising the same audiophile sound quality and unobtrusive but stylish aesthetic as the rest of the Solo product range. Ease of placement and effortless high quality sound are the signature of the new Solo muso speaker.

The main drive unit utilises a proprietary paper-pulp and fibre sandwich cone resulting in an optimally light yet stiff cone. The drive unit’s chassis is die-cast, which has been used over the more common and cheaper steel chassis as it allows for thinner supporting structures which in turn allow sound to pass from the back of the speaker cone to the inside of the cabinet more easily and reduces reflected sound back towards the cone, which would add distortion. Within the cabinet, speaker wadding further damps internal reflections and increase the apparent volume by slowing air movement which extends the low frequency response. Additionally, the walls are lined with adhesive vibration damping material to greatly reduce and sound being radiated from the cabinet.

The muso tweeter is a pure aluminium dome tweeter. As with the main driver, sound passes from the tweeter both forwards and backwards. When travelling backwards through the tweeter, the sound reaches the back surface of the tweeter and is radiated into the cabinet. To combat this, the rear surface of the tweeter is damped, significantly reducing this distortion and improving the clarity of the sound, particularly the fine detail.

solo sub -from $800

The Solo sub is designed to offer unrivalled performance and class leading specifications. Extremely rigid materials and high quality construction methods have been incorporated into both products to prevent and dispel resonance, which can colour and distort the sound. The Solo sub features a 300 watt amplifier and a downward firing 10" woofer for added low frequency power and scale. It can be connected wirelessly or wired to the Solo bar. The Solo sub also can be used in association with more complex AV systems, for example Arcam’s class-leading SR250 & AVR850.
