As a company, DALI crafts on two core philosophies: build speakers that people want in their homes and make them sound great. Each contributes to the final result – speakers that are a pleasure to own and use. In essence, this is DALI’s recipe for success.
When considering what to design and build, DALI looks hard at how people actually listen to music at home and where the devices that make that music are placed. This has led to a portfolio of designs that fit the more traditional form, as well as, the more contemporary. Some stand on the floor, some sit on a counter and some mount to the wall. They all share a common beautiful aesthetic, blending into the surrounding environment. It’s through that physical beauty that DALI speakers live up to the old axiom that ‘speakers should be heard not seen’.
Many years ago, the engineers at DALI sat down and vetted the various aspects of reproducing sound in the home. This lead to what amounts to an engineering credo, or what DALI calls their Sound Design Principles. In no particular order, they are: low loss, wide dispersion, time coherence, low noise cabinets, amplifier friendliness, and handcrafting. All DALI designs circle around these principles, and are why all DALI speakers sound as good as they do.
Danish Design & Manufacturing
There’s an ingrained mindset found in DALI’s Danish-designed products. This mindset stems from the geographic location of Scandinavia (Denmark, Sweden, Norway), one where little sunlight, isolation, and the need to use the materials at hand lead to efficient products that would enrich people’s lives. Danish design emerged based on a tradition of craftsmanship, an efficient use of limited material resources and a final product that was beautiful, yet functional. It is a design philosophy that aims to appeal to the masses through products that are accessible and affordable, yet not stripped of beauty.
Many of the world’s most famous names in design come from cradle of Scandinavia, including Georg Jensen, Electrolux, H&M, Marimekko and BoConcept. Inherent to each of the companies or designers is a natural sense of style best encapsulated with the phrase “beautiful things that make your life better.” The next time you turn the knob up of a pair DALI speakers you might just be reminded that the things we own should make life better.
DALI, (Danish Audiophile Loudspeaker Industries), grew out of Scandinavia’s leading audio retail chain in 1983. Its founding was based on two observations. One, that customers often requested a combinations of size, shape, performance and price that existing brands could not offer. Two, because many speaker products were imported into Denmark, they often did not live up to the standards of Danish design and manufacturing. From the onset, they set out to create loudspeakers with outstanding performance and natural sound at competitive prices. The immediate success they had, and have today, has allowed DALI to continually improve themselves as a company and reinvest in domestic manufacturing and in-house technology.
Now, with over 30 years of experience and global recognition, DALI can proudly say it’s taken a stance on sound that has advanced the state of the art, inspired music and cinema lovers and challenged the competition. Set in idyllic western Denmark, their purpose built factory now produces over 250,000 speakers per year.
