Are CD Players still relevant to a modern digital audio system? That was the question The Absolute Sound writer Alan Taffel set out to answer.
Taffel was surprised to find that not only is a CD Player still very much needed in a sound system, but that standalone CD players are a better choice than the "universal" combination CD/streams/DAC options out there.
Single-minded components enable single-minded engineering. They liberate designers to optimize every element for one function. This means that a well-designed CD player will audibly outshine a similarly-priced multi-disc player or combination player/DAC.
