Rega's new Planar 3 RS Edition Gets Wave of Accolades

When we introduced the new Rega Planar 3 RS edition to the our retailers, we had no idea how popular the new turntable would be. We were blown away by the pre-sale and are working with our friends at Rega Research to procure more for the North American market. In the meantime, the first models have been sent out across the audio industry and have gained a swell of amazing reviews. We've collected some of our favorites for you to see below!

Sound Advice

Sound Advice was one of the first to share their experience with the new RS edition of the Planar 3. In their review, they tackled the contradictory nature of the Planar 3 RS: First, that it sounds exactly as you would expect a normal Planar 3 to sound. And second, that it sounds different than any previous Planar 3. Much of that is due to the new ND5 Cartridge, but the Planar 3 RS also captures some of the magic of the top-of-the-line Rega turntables, like the famed Planar 10.

The Planar 3 RS is more than an enhanced Planar 3. It feels like a cost-effective way of accessing what the high-end Rega decks can do, in a beautiful and unintimidating device. The concept has been around for decades, but this latest Planar 3 feels a lot like the future.

The Ear

Calling the RS edition the "ultimate" P3 record player seems odd at first considering there are multiple models further up the Rega turntable chain, like the Planar 6, 8, 10, and Naia. However, The Ear points out that the RS edition includes features that bring the Planar 3 in line with those higher-end models. Utilizing the High-Pressure Laminate features in the 6,8, and 10, the new Planar 3 RS has improved rigidity over the standard model. Further adding to the je nais se quois is the brushed aluminum finish with gloss black accents.

This new premium finish has a stunning real brushed aluminium satin finish. The plinth is edged with high gloss black to set off the dark metal finish and is supplied with a smoked dustcover to guarantee this product will blend with other hi-fi equipment in any environment. You can expect exceptional levels of performance and value for money.
