Chord Mojo 2 (4.4mm Edition): A Classic Pocket Powerhouse, Smartly Refined
Posted by The Sound Organisation on Jun 17th 2026
Chord Electronics has proven time and again that they offer some of the best portable and desktop digital audio products in the business. From the transportable Hugo 2 to the desktop-focused Alto, Chord delivers a powerful, highly adaptive sound signature. Their most decorated pocket device, the Mojo 2, has received a meaningful hardware revision that addresses the two biggest requests from modern head-fi enthusiasts: a 4.4mm Pentaconn headphone port and streamlined USB-C charging. Commenting on the update, Delaney Czernikowski says that, "Now, four years later, we have an updated revision of this amplifier that appeals to every audiophile's needs."

Aesthetically, this updated iteration remains faithful to the original, compact CNC-milled aluminum chassis. The key layout and dimensions are unchanged, preserving the pocketable footprint that makes it so easy to move from a desktop setup to a mobile signal chain. The most welcome physical update sits on the output panel, where one of the original dual 3.5mm jacks has made way for a 4.4mm termination. This addition dramatically expands headphone and IEM compatibility without the need for bulky aftermarket adapters.
Functionally, the update solves a long-standing cable convenience hurdle by introducing switchable USB-C charging and data through a single cable. Chord has also implemented an independent volume memory feature for each output, automatically recalling your preset levels when switching between different sets of cans. For existing users, the intuitive polychromatic menu system remains identical, providing access to Chord’s cross feed settings and their proprietary, completely lossless 104-bit UHD DSP tone controls.

Sonically, the core architecture maintains the spectacular standards of the platform. Rather than using an off-the-shelf DAC chip, designer Rob Watts utilizes a powerful Xilinx Artix 7 FPGA running custom code and an advanced 40,960-tap WTA filter. The resulting audio performance doesn't alter a headphone's native frequency response; instead, it provides a transparent, authoritative boost across the spectrum. Frequencies stay impeccably smooth and distinct, serving up deep front-to-back soundstage imaging, pristine transient response, and a black, noise-free background that brings high-end monitors to life.

The Verdict: Chord didn't need to reinvent the wheel with this revision, choosing instead to perfect the usability of an already class-leading design. By eliminating cable clutter and adding universal 4.4mm convenience, this pocket powerhouse remains the definitive portable DAC/amp to beat.
