Is the Rega Fono Mini A2D Mk2 Worth It?

Posted by The Sound Organisation on May 21st 2024

What Hi-Fi proudly claims the Rega Fono Mini A2D Mk2 as their budget phono stage of choice. With its understated look and performance integrity- the Fono Mini makes for a solid choice. Let’s talk about it.

The device itself is a low-key, simplistic box that barely takes up any room on a desk. In terms of input and output connections, all you’ll find are stereo RCAs. On the front, a singular USB (Type B) is present which lends to the A2D name. Since the USB connection is present, this allows the user to connect the Fono Mini to a computer and digitize the music files.

The Fono Mini is only concerned with the basics. And it does the basics just right. After all it is a budget device, but Rega has attempted to lessen the blow on the compromises for the price. It still delivers dynamic sound that is full of energy. Tones are balanced and for the price point- the details are good.

Overall, there is not much of a difference sonically from this version and its predecessor. However, it did get an upgrade in looks and maintains an enticing price point. It makes the Fono Mini A2D Mk2 the best option for this category.
