The Rega Planar 6 RS Edition has received an outstanding review from What Hi-Fi?, which praised the turntable's refined performance, impressive engineering, and striking design. Building on the success of the award-winning Planar 6 and Planar 3 RS Edition, the new model incorporates several advanced technologies from Rega's premium Planar 8. The result is a beautifully crafted turntable that delivers an elevated listening experience while maintaining the musical character that has made Rega a favorite among vinyl enthusiasts.
At the heart of the Planar 6 RS Edition is Rega's signature lightweight Tancast 8 foam-core plinth, finished in an elegant brushed metallic skin that complements its minimalist design. The turntable also features the hand-assembled RB880 tonearm from the Planar 8, a twin-drive belt system for improved speed stability, and Rega's flagship Nd9 moving magnet cartridge. Combined with the Neo Mk2 power supply, these carefully engineered upgrades contribute to exceptional precision, rigidity, and overall performance.
During listening tests, What Hi-Fi? highlighted the Planar 6 RS Edition's remarkable agility, dynamic expression, and ability to reveal subtle musical details. Across recordings from Fleetwood Mac, Nirvana, and Holst, the turntable delivered a spacious, three-dimensional soundstage with precise instrument placement and impressive tonal balance. The review particularly praised its deep, controlled bass, expressive vocals, and ability to convey both delicate passages and powerful crescendos with remarkable composure. A quieter background also allowed finer musical textures to emerge, creating a more immersive and emotionally engaging listening experience.
Ultimately, What Hi-Fi? concluded that the Planar 6 RS Edition successfully combines sophisticated engineering with exceptional musicality. Its refined sound, elegant appearance, and thoughtfully selected upgrades make it a compelling addition to Rega's turntable lineup. With its ability to bring greater clarity, depth, and emotion to familiar recordings, the Planar 6 RS Edition stands out as an impressive achievement for vinyl enthusiasts seeking a truly engaging listening experience
