Rega Aura Gets 5 Stars from What Hi-Fi

"The Rega is an exciting listen, squeezing every last drop of energy from the signal. But, it doesn’t ignore the subtleties either."

What Hi-Fi? recently got a chance to try out Rega's top-of-the-line phono stage, the Rega Aura. Rega's reference phono stage arrived in 2018 and has turned the heads of many hi-fi critics. Hi-Fi Choice awarded the Aura its Editors Choice award along with a 5 Star Review. Then, in March, The Ear gave Rega's phono amplifier a 5-Star rating with another great review. Now, What Hi-Fi? has had an opportunity to listen to the Aura.

Impressed with the clarity, dynamics, and top-notch fit and finish, What Hi-Fi awarded the Rega Aura 5 Stars. The Aura scored perfect 5s in each Sound and Build, falling a little short in the "Features" category. The reviewer acknowledges that this isn't particularly a detriment to the Aura, "Phono stages, particularly those that focus on just one type of cartridge, don’t tend to have much in the way of features, and the Rega doesn't buck the trend." When building the Aura, Rega engineers sacrificed added features and options, opting for a clean and uncluttered signal path with fewer points where distortion or noise could enter the signal.

"The Aura’s character is clean, crisp and articulate...We’re impressed with its ability to track the leading and trailing edges of notes with precision, but most of all by the way it resolves so much information and assembles it in such a musical and organised manner."
